Johnny Limbo & The Lugnuts
On May 29th, 1978, Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts played for the first time together at a party they had planned. As a party gag and telling no one, they put together a band consisting of work associates who also happened to be their friends. To their surprise, they were a "hit?" Several parties later, they thought it would be fun to play a club or a bar. They found a couple of clubs that were not necessarily known for live music. It was at one of those clubs, that they were "discovered." With occasional time off, they played the next 18 months of Sundays at the Red Lion in downtown Portland, Oregon and were "let loose" on the public. As they say, the rest is history! What started off as a party gag has taken Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts from the West to the East coast and in between. It has taken them around the world with their Far East tour (Japan, Lorea, Phillippines) for the Air Force. They have performed the opening day of baseball season for the Oakland A's and were guests of Nike to perform at a special party at the Los Angeles Olympics. They have opened for and shared the stage with such classics as The Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, Chubby Checker, Ricky Nelson, Herman's Hermits, The Righteous Brothers, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Jan and Dean, The Ventures, The Mamas and Papas, Three Dog Night, The Turtles and Johnny Rivers, to name a few. From the beginning, their goal was to have fun. This hasn't changed in over 30 years!
