Earthquake Ethels Dixieland Jazz Band Figidty feet Some of these days

Ethel Smith started her band ten years ago; it was revived in 2006.  She feels fortunate to be surrounded by talented musicians.  They have delighted audiences in the Portland/Woodburn/Vancouver areas with their upbeat, danceable Traditional Jazz music, and are pleased to be performing for the Vancouver Farmer's Market.  The musicians are:

Ethel Smith.....Leader/Vocals/Banjo
     Our delightful leader.  With Dr. Jazz and the Interns (still active) as Nurse Ethel.  With Rose City
     Banjoliers (who have been in existence 30 years), plays banjo, sings, and is their booking agent.
     Ethel can be heard at Libbie's Restaurant in Milwaukie on Tuesday evenings.

Warren Dillon.....Trumpet
      Professional music teacher.  Warren is an outstanding trumpet/cornet man.  He has played with Monte
      Ballou, Jim Beatty, Stumptown Jazz, Oregon Jazz Band, and Dixieland Party Band.  He currently
      plays in Portland's Metropolitan Concert Band, East County Senior Orchestra and many civic musical
      organizations.

Barry Benson.....Reeds
     Barry is President of the Portland Dixieland Jazz Society, and wears many hats.  He plays with
     Dr. Jazz and the Interns; is Commander of the American Legion Band; plays in Puddin' River Jazz
     Band, and various musical groups.

Garry Powell.....Trombone/Vocals
     Has been playing in Dixieland bands since 1964 in Arizona, California, and Hawaii.  Some of the
     groups are:  John Norris NOJB of Hawaii, Bill Cox's Over-the-Hill Gang of Honolulu, the Dixie
     natural Gas Company of Maui, Jazz Salvation of Sonoma County (CA), The Apple Knockers
     Jazz Band of Sonoma County; the Riverboat Ramblers of Phoenix (AZ), Bob Maske's Fat Cats
     of San Francisco, the Dixie Fat Cats of Jacksonville (OR), and various pick-up bands in the Los
     Angeles area.  Garry has performed with such notables as Ed Garland, Johnny St. Cyr, John Best,
     Ray Leatherwood, and Rex Stewart.

Harriet Vogel.....Piano
     Rose City Banjoliers, John Munger Memorial Jazz Band at Milwaukie Center (on occasion), plays
     piano/organ in many assisted living facilities in the Portland area.  Wrote words and music to
     "Earthquake Ethel".

Jim Foster.....Tuba
     Jim plays the heavy metal part in Earthquake Ethel's band....an excellent tuba man.  Has played
     with Puddin' River Jazz Band, Cork's Crew, Rose City Banjoliers.  Can be heard jamming at
     Eugene, Salem, and Portland Trad Jazz Societies.

Gary Smith.....Drums/Vocals
     Member of the Los Angeles Fire Department's "The Hook 'n Ladder Lads", and the L. A. Jazz
     Society band.  His own band, "The Time Machine", performed at various functions throughout
     Southern California.  Performed frequently at the L. A. Press Club.  Made numerous appearances
     on the Jerry Lewis Telethon and has played drums for many famous performers, including Rudy
     Vallee and Bob Hope.  Has made several appearances at Tony Starlight's Supper Club in Portland,
     and plays with the Dixieland Party Band.

John Kaleta.....Banjo
     Leader of Rose City Banjoliers.  Much sought after by many bands.  Also accomplished on guitar
     and musical saw.  John was inspired by his father, the late Bob Kaleta (piano), and early jazz. 
     Little know fact.....he's also a magician.
